Stay safe against COVID on public transportation
Ways to help protect yourself and others from COVID on public transportation
Get an updated COVID vaccine as soon as you can
Updated COVID vaccines are available for people 6 months and older to help protect against Omicron, the variant causing all new COVID infections.
Get an updated COVID vaccine now if you’re 18 or older and:
- You haven’t yet gotten a COVID vaccine.
- You’re vaccinated and your last dose was before September 2022.
People 65 and older can now get a second updated COVID vaccine beginning 4 months after their first.
People with a weakened immune system can get a second updated COVID vaccine beginning 2 months after their first.
If you recently had COVID, you can wait 3 months from when you got sick to get your updated COVID vaccine.
Parents and guardians of children under 18: Talk to your child’s vaccine or health care provider about when they need their updated vaccine.
You have three easy ways to find updated COVID vaccines near you:
- Go to vaccines.gov
- Text your ZIP code to 438829
- Call 1-800-232-0233
Prepare for your trip
COVID has affected many aspects of our lives, including public transportation schedules and rules. You can take a few extra steps to make sure you’re prepared to stop COVID in its tracks.
- Check your route for planned work and service changes that might cause delays or closures.
- Take a backup mask with you, in case yours gets dirty or wet. Bring a plastic bag that you can seal if you need to store wet or dirty masks.
- Pack sanitizing wipes or hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol (in case you can’t wash your hands until your destination).
Keep taking safety precautions
- Wear a mask over your nose and mouth. For everyone’s safety, CDC recommends that everyone ages 2 and older—passengers and workers—wear a mask on public transportation.
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol when soap and water aren’t available.
- Stay home if you feel sick.
